The Six Most Common Questions About Laser Hair Removal

If you are anything like the rest of us, you are probably tired of spending hours of laboring in the shower to achieve a hair free bikini line - only to develop the nasty nicks, cuts, and ingrown hairs that always seem to show up in the most visible places. And if you aren’t fond of hot wax being mercilessly removed from your skin (and tearing off a layer of skin, might we add), then you are not likely to turn to waxing as a hair removal method. But what is a hairy girl to do if she wants a smooth bikini line for summer? If you want to exchange your dull razors for an easy and effective hair removal method, laser hair removal may be for you!

Commonly Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal

We know it can be nerve wracking to try out a new hair removal method, so we aim to provide our patients with us much information as possible prior to their appointment. Here are few of our our most commonly asked questions:

  1. “Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?” Many people describe it to feel like a rubber band snapping on their skin followed by a cooling sensation. More intimate areas, such as the bikini line, will be slightly more uncomfortable. But the pain comes and goes in a microsecond, and it will likely be gone by the time you leave the office.

  2. “How Many Sessions are Required?” While the number of needed sessions varies from individual to individual, most people require roughly 6-12 treatments for permanent hair reduction.

  3. “What is the Best Time To Get Laser Treatment?” About four weeks out from your appointment, you should avoid being in the sun or going to tanning beds. You cannot use laser treatment if you have a deep tan or sunburn, so some people may not want to get this treatment done during the summer. The spring, fall, and winter are great seasons to start the process, however!

  4. “How Should I Prep for My Appointment?” We recommend that you shave the area you want treated about a day or two before your appointment, and do not wax or tweeze the areas you are wanting treatment for about 4 weeks prior. This is necessary to get the most out of your treatment!

  5. “How Long Does it Take?” You can expect laser removal to be quick. A small area such as the bikini line will usually take less than 20 minutes to complete. For a full Brazilian, you can expect a few minutes more. Most of the time, you can squeeze in this treatment on your lunch break!

  6. “How Long Does it Last?” While laser hair removal isn’t always completely permanent, it lasts an impressively long time. Some people come back for maintenance within a year, and others find that their hair follicles stop producing hair for several years. The more frequently you get this treatment, the more permanent the effects will be down the road.
