Breast Lift vs. Breast Implants: Which is Right for Me?

If you’ve ever thought about getting a breast enlargement, you have options, including a breast lift and breast implants. Both options can leave you feeling great about your body, but determining which option is best for you can be difficult. Let’s compare the two.

Breast Lifts

After a certain age, it’s not uncommon for women to experience breast ptosis, or breast drooping. As we age, our breasts lose the vitality they had when we were young. They can also change in size and position when women have babies or see dramatic changes in their weight. Either way, breast drooping can, understandably, cause a lot of discomfort and lower your self esteem. Breast lifts work to counter breast drooping by removing excess skin, tightening skin around the area, and reshaping the surrounding tissue to better support your breasts. After a breast lift, your breasts will be higher and firmer than before.

There are actually three different kinds of breast lifts depending on the size and shape of your breasts. These include the periareolar incision, inverted-T incisions, and vertical breast reduction. Breast lifts are particularly helpful if you are unhappy with your nipple placement, have drooping breasts, or if you’re looking to have firmer and “perkier” breasts. One important note to make is, unlike breast implants, breast lifts don’t actually increase the size of your breasts, which may be a drawback if that’s a particular outcome that you’re hoping for.

Breast Implants

A very common form of breast enlargement, breast implants, enlarges your breasts with either silicone or saline implants, increasing cup size and allowing for more cleavage. With breast implants, you can choose the size and shape that best match your body and your desired look. You can also choose between silicone and saline implants. Silicone implants are a little more expensive than saline ones, but usually provide better support. Saline implants may also leak, so many women opt for silicone. Saline implants, however, are more affordable. One thing to note about breast implants is that they rarely correct drooping breasts or poor nipple placement, but can improve shape and appearance.
