Spider veins can be eliminated through a simple office procedure called Sclerotherapy.
A typical spider vein treatment session is 20-30 minutes during which a sclerosing solution is injected into treatable spider veins. The solution causes the veins to fade and gradually disappear. Several treatments may be needed to achieve optimum results. Improvement may continue for several months after treatment until your final results are apparent. In most cases 50%-70% of the treated vessels will be gone for good.
Smaller than varicose veins, spider veins can be unsightly veins close to the surface of the skin. Many patients request spider vein removal because of the visibility of spider veins across the body – most often on the legs and face. Spider veins can occur in male and female patients of all ages, though sclerotherapy is most often sought by older patients, patients who have recently been pregnant, and patients who have recently undergone hormonal changes resulting in more noticeable spider veins.
Discomfort during spider vein treatment is minimal. After sclerotherapy you will wear special compression stockings day and night for a week to help keep pressure on the veins treated. Bruising or discoloration of the treated area may occur temporarily after treatment. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, but we ask that you refrain from strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
Prior to sclerotherapy one of our physicians will provide a consultation and review of medical history to find out if you are a candidate for spider vein removal. To schedule a consultation with either Dr. Reynolds or Dr. Jabor to discuss sclerotherapy for spider vein treatment, contact Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center of El Paso today.
